I was the Batwoman at the Sunday DC panel
However, I am not the Batgirl asking all the questions before. I met her on friday after she asked where all the women were in the reboot. I was inspired after her question was met by hostility and a flippant ‘Go count them’. DC should regret ever saying that. I counted. Out of the 98 prominent characters on the 52 new covers only 27 were women. Of the 28 single character titles only six feature women and of the six only two are not connected to older, white, male heroes. I presented these facts and asked ‘How do you justify calling this gender diversity?’. While I was not met with hostility like the Batgirl cosplayer, my question was not answered either. DiDio asked if my question was an industry wide question and if I had asked Marvel. I replid that this was a DC panel, hence the question, that it was an industry wide question and that I had ‘kinda given up on Marvel’. We argued about Babs. I stated that by taking her out of her role as Oracle it took away her power and that she no longer stood alone as a hero in her own right but rather put her under Batman, a man. In the end I did not get my question answered but was asked to move aside for the next question. I want to thank Batgirl ( whoever you are, you are a hero) and all the people who came up to me after the panel. I’m so glad that others agree (not just women, I did have a few men come up to me) If anyone wants, I can post a photo of me in my costume for proof.
EDIT: I fixed some typos and would like to say I found the woman dressed as Batgirl
